2024 was an exciting yet challenging year for my astronomical journey. Despite significant obstacles like persistent bad weather and clouds, pervasive fire smoke, poor atmospheric transparency, and the demands of a busy life, I managed to capture some remarkable celestial moments. Below are some of my highlights: - I observed the Sun through a hydrogen alpha telescope - I imaged the Moon and some planets (Jupiter, Saturn, Uranus and Neptune) - I experienced the emotions of a total solar eclipse (despite weather) - I captured a partial lunar eclipse - I imaged several deep sky objects, including the Andromeda galaxy, the Pleiades, and many beautiful nebulae - I attended Starfest (Canada's largest annual amateur astronomy conference and star party) for the very first time - I observed and imaged 2 bright comets (one was briefly visible to the naked eye) - I witnessed 2 incredible Northern Lights events What about You? 2024 Astronomical Retrospective

The night of October 10-11, 2024, will be impressed forever in my memory as one of the most incredible experiences of my entire life. The Northern Lights were literally dancing across the sky! This stunning display was triggered by a powerful solar storm, which struck Earth directly and resulted in an extraordinary geomagnetic event. Reports indicated that auroras were visible as far south as Florida, Texas, and even Mexico, showcasing vibrant colors of red, green, and purple. The storm reached a G4 (severe) level due to a significant coronal mass ejection (CME) from the Sun, which impacted Earth shortly after midday on October 10. I personally witnessed this experience and created a timelapse with a Wyze 3 camera to capture the magic of that night. Once in a lifetime Northern Lights

Moon Magic: Witnessing a partial Lunar Eclipse from my backyard

I will remember the night of May 10-11, 2024 as one of the most unforgettable experiences of my life. I saw the Northern Lights directly in my backyard! This timelapse captures the intense geomagnetic storm that literally ignited the night sky with breathtaking Northern Lights. The storm has been ignited by several coronal mass ejections coming from the giant sunspot region AR3664, 16 times larger than Earth. Filmed using a Wyze Cam v3 security camera, this vibrant hues of green, purple and red pillars of light dancing across the sky left me overwhelmed with emotion. My 2023 Astrophotography Highlights

I attempted to capture a timelapse of the Perseids meteor shower at their peak with a Budget Security Camera. The result is stunning! The timelapse was set to record the night sky on the night of of August 12-13, 2023 from 10:30 pm to 4:30 am. Perseids Meteor Shower Timelapse Filmed on a Budget Security Camera

In March 2023 I had the opportunity to borrow a Coronado Personal Solar Scope (PST). This scope is specifically designed to safely watch the Sun and comes with an internal etalon filter that transmits hydrogen-alpha light only. With the PST you can see fine solar details including dynamic prominences and sunspots, flares, filaments and surface granulation. I tested the scope capabilities with my OSC camera.
